ANALYTICAL REVIEW ON THE MOST IMPORTANT BACTERIAL DISEASES OF MARINE BIVALVE MOLLUSCS

https://doi.org/10.25690/VETPAT.2020.24.39.002

Abstract

A brief analytical review of the most significant bacterial diseases of bivalve molluscs in natural conditions and in mariculture is presented. Such diseases as "warmwater" or "classic" vibriosis (Vibrio anguillarum), brown ring disease (Vibrio tapetis), bacillary necrosis (Vibrio tubiashii) and nocardiosis (Nocardia crassosreae) are described. The literature provides data on the prevalence and manifestation of infections, susceptible species of molluscs, virulence of pathogens and diagnostic methods. In the list of the International Epizootic Bureau, the diseases caused by vibrios and nocardia, which are very important for domestic and foreign mariculture, are not reflected. At the same time, diseases provoked by vibrios can occur in various types of mollusks and cause death at all stages of rearing, but the larvae are the most sensitive. Etiological agents can be 14 species of bacteria from Vibrio genus. Infections associated with Nocardia crassosreae are recorded mainly in adults of Pacific, European oysters and Black sea mussels.
